Integrating Experience in School Psychology |
Integrating Experience
includes four elements:
-
Portfolio
(professional variety — as a ‘paper’
product and a web version)
-
Praxis
(the
high-stakes examination for school psychologists)
-
Presentation
(on-campus and at the NASP Convention)
-
Products
(demonstration
of technological
competency)
These can all be considered
'mastery-based' destinations with clear outcome measures. Essentially, the
following is required for completion of these KSU SPSY benchmarks ...
- Prepare your pre-professional Portfolio in a format that
is readied for inclusion of your internship products. This generally means
excising class-related products and boosting the CV to reflect your new
status as an intern/neophyte professional.
- Completing the Praxis Examination at least to the ODE
benchmark; ideally, you'll pass at the OBP levels (note that both of these
are in the process of being redefined).
- The Proposal for the NASP Convention is due in mid-June ~
this should be completed with CSM's assistance and posted to the NASP portal
prior to the due-date. This same proposed 'Inservice' for professionals will
be scheduled for on-campus presentation during the 'Issues and Approaches'
meeting scheduled at the start of the second semester of internship.
- The standards for technological competence are detailed
within
http://www.ehhs.kent.edu/spsy/technology.cfm where there is a
self-evaluation checklist. The product required to indicate mastery is a
self-audit ~ with checks completed by CSM to confirm that you have the
necessary skills.

- There are suggestions
provided to help you craft a professional
Handout
for NASP (and the on-campus rehearsal day), as well as some pointers on
developing a set of
PowerPoint Slides
to
support your talk. And, there are even some hints on
refining your verbal presentation.
- The Integrating Experience is supported by
a password protected web-based instructional center exclusively dealing
with the Praxis Examination
(for which the password is provided separately to enrolled students).
- A page dealing with
Portfolios has also been
developed to provide background to this element of the class requirements.
Additional information is archived at the SPSY program's website (See:
Portfolio Rubric).
