The
on-campus schedule is intended to emulate the procedure one should expect at
professional Conferences generally and NASP in particular. That is, the
presenter should be armed and ready to present according to the published
schedule. ‘The Show Must Go On.’ At NASP you may find that the person ahead
of you attempts to over-run their time-slot and unless you’re appropriately
assertive would otherwise steal some of your presentation time. This is
confusing to YOUR audience who are there to see your work and not see the
tail-end of someone else’s presentation who hasn’t scheduled their time
well. In such a case you can walk confidently to the front and quietly ask
the presenter to continue the discussion outside so that you can set up and
begin. This is entirely appropriate professional etiquette. Such an assertive approach
won’t be needed for the on-campus presentations since anyone over-running
will be gently cut short by the faculty person present ― that way we will
keep to the time-slots. There will be collegial feedback sheets completed by
audience members for each presenter. These are aimed at focusing attention
on areas-to-tweak as well as provide evaluative comments.
You should
anticipate that faculty will try to ensure that the equipment arrives early
and as ordered (i.e., display projector). At KSU
we’ll have a PowerPoint setup ready for you. However, just as at <real>
conferences it’s important to accept and even consider what you’ll do should
there be an equipment breakdown. Clearly, it’s important to arrive in
sufficient time to gain confidence that your materials are compatible with
the equipment that is delivered by KSU AV Services.
